Michels Canada celebrates 25th anniversary

Michels Canada is continuing to commemorate our 25th anniversary by celebrating our past successes and anticipating our prosperous future.

This year is dedicated to the hard-working, innovative people who have guided the growth of Michels Canada’s services and reputation as a safe, reliable energy and infrastructure contractor since our founding days.

As part of the year of celebration, Michels Canada held three employee-focused events in June at Michels Canada’s permanent offices in Nisku, AB, Vancouver, BC, and Toronto, ON. Team members were lauded by Michels Canada’s leadership team as well as representatives from Michels Corporation and the Michels Family of Companies.

“Michels Canada is a success story built over the past 25 years by an outstanding team of people who view each project—and each detail of a project—as an opportunity to have a positive impact on Canada’s future,” said Dean Cowling, President, Michels Canada. “Our integrity, commitment to safety, and respect for people, families and the environment are authentically aligned with what it means to be Canadian and what it means to be a member of the Michels Family of Companies.

“I am more than proud of what we have accomplished,” he said. “I am inspired by the drive and dedication of our people to continuously push for new ways to serve our customers by delivering safe, innovative energy and infrastructure solutions.”

Michels Canada was established in 1997 as Michels Directional Crossings Co. to focus on horizontal directional drilling (HDD) for the oil and gas industry. As our reputation for safety-forward, innovative work grew, we branched out to serve other industries. In 2006, our name was changed to Michels Canada to reflect our wider range of services and our connection to Michels Corporation and the Michels Family of Companies. In the next few years, our geographic range and service offerings dramatically expanded.

In addition to performing some of Canada’s most challenging HDD projects, Michels Canada became a go-to contractor for tunnels, mainline pipelines, pipeline integrity programs, and sanitary and storm sewer rehabilitation using cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) and spray-in-place pipe (SIPP) lining systems. In 2013, we completed Canada’s first Direct Pipe installation. In 2015, we completed the longest 42-inch HDD in North America. In 2021, we completed Canada’s longest-ever HDD and added electrical power construction services.

“In the past 25 years, Michels Canada has expanded service offerings and geographic regions without changing the commitment to safety and quality,” said Pat Michels, President and CEO, Michels Corporation.

“My family and I are proud of how Michels Canada and its strong team have evolved, yet stayed true to the Michels brand.”
