Scope

Michels was the prime contractor, managed and constructed the mainline installation scope of work for the 63 kilometres of NPS 36-inch pipe for the Enbridge Edmonton to Hardisty (E2H) Line 67 Pipeline Project.

Under jurisdiction of Canada’s regulatory agency, the project faced rigorous inspections on all aspects of safety and environmental stewardship, with work through 48 wetlands. For example; weed management was a significant component of the project, which required thorough washing of the entire equipment fleet before entering certain locations. Topsoil was carefully handled to protect its unique characteristics.

Aboriginal involvement was of utmost importance, with the pipeline’s trajectory being rerouted mid-project through a highly sensitive native archaeological site, which not only required collaboration and time, but also added pipeline length, and additional HDDs to the project.

Michels successfully completed all 63km of mainline, four valve and building installations, seven large HDDs, and multiple isolated open-cut water crossings, including a sheet piled isolate crossing of the Battle River.
